Family Reunion in Phoenix, Arizona

October, 2008

We had a family reunion in and around Phoenix, Arizona, nominally starting Saturday, October 18, 2008.  Skip and I chose to fly to Phoenix early and then to spend some time in Sedona, as well.

We flew to Phoenix on Wednesday, October 15.  On Thursday, we visited Taliesin West (more pictures:  Wikipedia entry) and the Desert Botanical Garden.  Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring our camera, so the web sites will have to do.

Friday we had lunch with Lorraine, then went to Mystery Castle and drove to the top of South Mountain in the late afternoon, just before sunset.  Saturday we did some shopping, then met the family for the "big dinner."  Sunday some went to Marlowe's exhibition game.  Skip and I went shopping.  We all gathered for dinner that evening.  Here are selected pictures from these three days:  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Monday we were down to eight.  (Kevin & Marlowe had left Sunday evening; David, Belinda, Samantha, and Jacqueline left Monday morning.)  We went to the Heard Museum in Phoenix for the afternoon, then dinner at a Garcia's, a Mexican restaurant.  Here are selected pictures from Monday:  Heard Museum and dinner

Tuesday Skip and I drove to Sedona.  Along the way, we stopped at Arcosanti, an urban laboratory in the desert where about 100 people live and try out energy minimizing strategies.  Click here to see our pictures of Arcosanti

Wednesday and Thursday we spent in Sedona at various shops and hiking around the red rocks.  I have over 200 pictures.  Here are a selected few:  Sedona

Then on Friday, we headed back to Phoenix for our Saturday flight.  We took the long way back, stopping at Tuzigoot National Monument and the old mining town of Jerome.  Here are pictures from those two places.
